HAPPY 38TH BIRTHDAY: Tom Hiddleston | Reviews & more

In honor of Tom Hiddleston’s 38th birthday, I wanted to create a post dedicated to him.  I included photos, links to other articles, reviews (spoiler warning), & more.

*To follow Mr. Hiddleston, click on one of the following links (IMDB, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).

The reviews I will be doing are from the following:
*click on names to watch movies on YouTube

Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), High-Rise (2015) *coming soon, Kong: Skull Island (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Tom Hiddleston played the role of Loki, an Asgardian prince, during the course of these films.

During the events of Thor, Loki found out he was the adopted son of Odin and Frigga.  His birth parent was King Laufey, of the Frost Giants.  This realization caused him to remember all the times he grew up in Thor's shadow, and why Odin wouldn't let him take the throne even though he was not a hot head like his elder brother.

After Odin fell into the Odin sleep, Loki sent the destroyed to Earth to stop his brother.  He also tried to destroy the home of the giants, in hopes of making Odin proud.  He was eventually defeated and fell into the void.

The Avengers takes place about a year after the incident of Thor.  Loki has surfaced from the other dimension with a scepter that glows blue and has the power to control people.

He gets himself captured by the group, in order to release the Hulk, to destroy them from the inside.  During the fight, he was defeated by the Hulk, and taken back to Asgard by Thor, along with the Tesseract.

In Thor: The Dark World, Jane Foster gets infected with the ether (Reality Stone).  Loki tells one of the escaped prisoners where to go, and in doing so, Frigga is killed.  He blames himself for her death, so helps Thor to stop the elves.  He fakes his death (as per the norm) and pretends to be Odin.  He ended up banishing him to Earth.

Thor returns to Asgard, after learning that Loki is still alive, and that he is pretending to be Odin.  After going to Norway to bring Odin back, he dies.  This releases his eldest child, Hela, from her prison (Thor: Ragnarok).  They get sent to a junk planet controlled by the Grandmaster.  While there, they team up with Bruce Banner (he has been fighting there for a long time) and a woman who is the last of the Valkerie's.

After defeating Hela by causing Ragnarok, the remaining Asgardians flee.  When they do, Thanos appears to attack the ship (Avegners: Infinity War).  Thanos took the Tesseract from Loki, and crushed his neck.

Those are the major events pertaining to Loki in the MCU.

I fell in love with Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki from the scene when he confronted Odin in the treasure room.  The line "tell me" caught me off guard.  I wept for his feeling of loss and betrayal.  He was given so much depth.  I believe that they made the best casting choice by selecting him.  As the movies progress, I have the sense of Loki starting out as an innocent (mostly) child wanting the approval and love of his family.  Slowly becoming into his own, not always by the best of means.  I look forward to any more movies he is in during the franchise.  I know there is a rumor going around for an untitled Loki series (I think he is supposed to be narrating and casting a younger Loki), which I will definitely see when it comes out.

Hiddleston plays James Conrad in the movie Kong: Skull Island. I did a review for the movie on my channel.
